mother - margret anne hartman - born and raised in paris, she was one of many musicians in her bloodline. both of her parents, as well as her aunt on her father's side and her two uncles on her mother's side, and many before them, had attended juilliard, a prestigious music school in new york.
father - delis marvik burrell - delis was born in russia but moved to france with his parents at the age of four. like margret, his family had a long line of musicians. so naturally, the talent was passed on to him. though the rest of his family attended a music school in spain, he was the first in the family to attend juilliard.

harley has never met her father or any of his side of the family. margret and delis met in the united states after graduating, oddly enough not once seeing each other in school, and margret soon became pregnant, but delis wasn't nearly as happy about it as she was. he split, leaving her pregnant, alone, and with little money in new york city. she had no choice but to move back to paris and live with her parents.
their house was extravagant, but comfortable. money wasn't something that they paid attention to. harley grew up there, playing piano with her grandfather and tending the flower gardens with her grandmother. she watched as they practiced their music, showing her simple song on the piano, guitar, and violin that made her smile. it wasn't long before her mother noticed a true talent in her.
high school was a breeze for her. with her kind attitude and appealing face, it wasn't hard for harley to make friends. she went through her share of boyfriends and best friends, but her main focus remained her musical career. she spent her free time practicing a number of instruments and singing in the school choir or out on the streets of paris with her guitar case open with a sign that read "send me to juilliard."
while in school, there was one boy who managed to take up the only place in her heart that music didn't, and this was mainly because he had the same knack for music that she did. adam mercier was her first love. they hit it off from day one, when she was partnered up with him in choir class to do a duet. he loved her passion for music, just as she loved his.
naturally, harley went to new york city shortly after graduating high school to attend juilliard with adam by her side. the two lived in the old loft apartment that her grandparents had bought for her mother while she was in school. everything seemed to be going great, until adam decided that harley wasn't what he wanted. he left, leaving her devistated. she couldn't keep herself in school and dropped out after her second year, packing her bags for north dakota and leaving her dreams in new york city. there was no chance that she was going back to paris, not if there was any chance that adam would be there.
her mother didn't like the idea of harley being away for so long, and after a year she decided to move to forreston with her. harley made a living now by working in a local bar where she was promised three nights a week to sing and play music for the guests after her shift. though she was happy to have her mother with her again, memories of adam still left her depressed. she wasn't the person she used to be.
things took a turn for the worst when harley's mother went missing while she was out for a jog one morning. now harley is doing her best to find the person, or people, who killed her mother along with a number of other people in forreston.

harley is both an average height and an average weight of 5'6 and 138 pounds. her hair is a red-ish shade of brown that compliments her hazel eyes. she is often seen with her hair down and her lips painted red. she has very fair skin, which makes her fire-red hair really pop. you almost never see her in clothes that aren't dressy.

harley is kind unless you are on her bad side. she is usually quiet. that's not to say she doesn't like to have fun though. when she's in the right mood, she can be pretty loud. she never discriminates. if you give her a reason to like you, it won't matter what race or gender you are, or what kinds of things you like or do.
